Diesel Fume Exposure Monitoring - Requirements For WA Mining Companies

The Department of Mines wants to see proper monitoring plans in place using equipment specifically suited for diesel particulate measurements (DPM). The protection of underground workers is paramount as the health effects of long term DPM exposure can be serious.

All underground mines using diesel vehicles must:

  1. Conduct personal diesel fume monitoring.
  2. Conduct background diesel fume monitoring.
  3. Conduct on‐vehicle diesel fume monitoring (if needed).

Personal Diesel & Particulate Monitors

Activating the data logging feature allows the company or wearer to record high resolution DPM exposure data taken over one or more work shifts. This data can
later be downloaded to show the time, date, levels of exposure and the duration of exposure to diesel particulates. This is highly valuable and sought after information that helps companies improve processes and safety for their workers.

Portable and Fixed Diesel Particulate Monitors – Background Monitoring

The TSI DPM Aerosol Monitors are battery-operated, data-logging, light-scattering laser photometers that give you real-time aerosol mass readings. They use a sheath air system that isolates the aerosol in the optics chamber to keep the optics clean for improved reliability and low maintenance. Each unit is specifically calibrated for Diesel Particulate Monitoring.

These monitors provide 24 hour continuous monitoring & data logging of DPM levels helping companies identify hot spots, such as improperly tuned diesel vehicles.
